Valentine’s Day Research

Our Valentine’s research showed that shoppers are so far shrugging off concerns about Brexit and remain confident in their immediate spending plans. The research predicted a boost in sales, with 38% of shoppers having planned to spend more this year, and 43% tending to trade up to make the day that much more special.

In other Valentine’s Day news, ‘Dine in For Two’ meal deals were a popular trend in grocery retailers this year, captured by the Photo Store below in Waitrose, M&S and Morrisons. Most were priced at £20, with Morrisons and Asda offering a £15 alternative.

Sainsbury’s #fooddancing – The Grocer

Sainsbury’s #fooddancing ad has generated an overwhelmingly positive response on Twitter, attracting 6,788 mentions since its launch on 18 January and, of the tweets that expressed an opinion, 89% were positive and only 11% were negative. The campaign was ramped up on Valentine’s Day, when Sainsbury’s posted a themed version of the ad and created a #fooddancing playlist on Spotify for the occasion. Some of the in-store media for the campaign was also altered for Valentine’s Day, as seen below.
